Summary

We are currently recruiting a full time Safety Supervisor to oversee Omineca Fabricating’s Health and Safety Program. This position will work closely with the Board of Directors to ensure the organization is fulfilling its commitment to our employees, our customers, and the public by fostering a culture of safety across all levels of our operations.

The position is based out of our main office in Prince George, BC and requires a mix of office work and industrial site visits. Some projects may necessitate odd hours and/or overtime. Work-related travel will be required.

Main Duties

  • Provide leadership in safety stewardship.
  • Conduct site safety visits and ensure work is being performed in a safe manner and in compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, regulations, and customer requirements.
  • Provide expertise and advice on the design, implementation, monitoring, and review of the Health and Safety Program.
  • Support Operations to set and meet specific health and safety goals.
  • Oversee employee engagement and buy-in to the Health and Safety Program.
  • Direct and coordinate incident investigations, providing feedback to the board of Directors and Human Resources.
  • Complete incident investigations and reporting requirements for regulating authorities.
  • Manage WCB claims and Modified Duties/Return to Work Program
  • Organize and participate in JOHS Committee meetings.
  • Conduct safety orientations for new hires and validate safety training and certifications.
  • Participate in performance management as it pertains to employee safety and security.
  • Mentor and coach employees on safety matters at all levels of the organization.
  • Maintain and update employee information, certificates, and forms in SiteDocs and other programs.
  • Carry out risk assessments and job hazard planning.
  • Coordinate and conduct in-house safety training and equipment competencies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in the field of Health and Safety
  • Certificate or Degree in OHS, NCSO, or NEBOSH
  • Experience with COR Audits
  • CRSP, or CRST Designation considered and asset
  • OSHA 30, OSHA 510 considered an asset
  • Train the Trainer Certificate considered and asset
  • Excellent clerical skills, filing, data entry and proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Class 5 drivers license
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate different crews and site visits during irregular hours
  • Comfortable working in a shop, mill, mine, and office environment

Work Environment

Omineca Fabricating’s main office is located within the traditional territory of the Lheidli T’enneh, in Prince George, BC. Our fabrication shop is situated on the banks of the Nechako River. In the course of performing their duties for Omineca Fabricating, the Safety Supervisor will work in a variety of environments including a traditional office and high-hazard industrial sites.

Pay: $48.00-$53.00 per hour depending on experience
